Students, doctoral candidates, lecturers and employees at the University of Iowa City have good reason to be pleased. The new Visual Arts Building offers modern studios, employee offices and gallery spaces. When the Iowa River flooded the university campus in 2008, it severely damaged the earlier monumental building. The new structure at the University of Iowa City now forms a contrast to the solid old edifice. Specialised areas such as ceramics, sculpture, metal, photography and print graphics are accommodated in the interior and the open design supports the interdisciplinary communication. The green flat roof and balconies in the recesses reinforce this concept while the workspaces enable uninterrupted creative work with their loft-like character. A total of 3,500 m² of titanium zinc with the RHEINZINK prePATINA blue grey surface quality were used.
